URGENT ACTION NEEDED

SSB 5930-Blue Ribbon Commission on Health Care Costs and Access.

This bill has been modified many times and continues to threaten the "every category of provider" law. You and Your Patients need to call you House representative immediately. Please call until you receive notice from us that the bill has passed safely.

Message to your representatives:

  1. Make no changes to SSB 5930 on the floor of the House.
  2. Do NOT discriminate against providers by removing anti-discrimination statutes and forcing patients to "physician only" plans.
  3. Let patients choose the provider of their choice to treat covered conditions. Chiropractic saves money.
  4. Do not allow insurers only cover invasive, drug based approaches when treating your conditions

This is the bill that made one plan available for purchase that would have made the "every category of provider" law and health insurance mandated benefits (i.e. mammograms, diabetes coverage and others) an option. The amendment that made this an option was removed in the House Health Care Committee with a largely partisan fight by the Republicans, but there are many other damaging amendments that are being submitted for vote on the House floor right now!

Brief History of the ECOP:

  • Passed by the legislature in 1993.
  • Insurers sued the State and fought all the way to the US Supreme Court.
  • US Supreme Court agreed with decision of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals that ECOP is NOT a mandated benefit.
  • In 2000, insurers were directed to comply with the law, directing carriers to have a network of providers available for patients to choose from to treat covered conditions.*

* Even with this law, the benefit limits for services offered by non-medical providers is extremely limited and tightly managed simply because of the personal bias of the insurer decision-makers. DON'T let the legislature take any part of this law away! Make your voice heard now.

2SSB 5597 passed the House 84-10

April 6th – Our bill passed out of the House today with an 84-Yea 10-Nay, 4 excused, vote. Right up until the bill was scheduled for floor consideration, insurance and business lobbyists were working strongly against us. They have been passing out propaganda that was meant to misconstrue and confuse our issues with those of vacation relief and delegation of duties.  Read More...
