Chiropractic may make
you more creative, according to Australian pilot study
Can your chiropractic adjustment enhance your creative
thinking? A recent pilot study out of Australia suggests that it can.
The study, reported in the June 2010 issue of the Chiropractic Journal of Australia,
describes the responses of 10 subjects, ages 10-62, to a single chiropractic
adjustment.
Nine of the subjects were currently involved in a real-world
task involving some form of creative thinking. Seven of the subjects were also
experiencing some form of musculoskeletal pain at the time of the study, while
three of them also reported stress or stress-related symptoms.
The study participants received two versions of the
alternate uses test – an established outcome measure related to divergent
thinking – before and after a chiropractic adjustment. Each subject was also
interviewed two to eight days after the adjustment, to ascertain their own
impressions of any changes they experienced in the realm of creative thinking.
The results: Six of the ten participants saw a
post-adjustment improvement in their performance on the alternate uses test,
seven of them indicated new directions in a real-world creative task, and six
reported renewed energy toward a creative project already planned.
While the results suggest short-term enhancement of creative
thinking following a chiropractic adjustment, due to the small sample size
these conclusions are considered preliminary, pending verification by future
studies.Link:
